In addition to the extraordinary landscapes and flora and fauna, the Northern Territory and Kimberley provides some of the best opportunities to view and participate in Australian Aboriginal culture. Whether sitting around a campfire discussing the Dreamtime, examining rock art galleries or going into Aboriginal communities to look at works of art it's all here.
Roads: The roads in the Northern Territory and the Kimberley range from first-class, all-weather sealed roads, to little more than tracks that challenge the 4WD enthusiast. While road conditions in this region vary greatly & have their own set of hazards thousands of visitors avoid them every year through a bit of thought, care and attention. Generally common sense is the most important factor in safe outback driving, more than skill or experience.

What does Bluey mean?

Pronounced Blue'ē, it means the collection of possessions carried by a person travelling in the Outback.

Australian Dictionary in 1899: "There's the everlasting swaggie with a bluey on his back who is striking out for sunset on the never-never track".

In the early days you needed food & water to travel in the Outback, these days you need a vehicle and the right information. Our business was created to help people who want to travel through the outback independantly (Self Drive). The obvious name for our business was Bluey.

** The word bluey is also used to refer to a person with red hair.
