| Cape Leveque - Things to See and Do |
|
Overview A picturesque landscape with green plains gashed by long red roads, a lighthouse, white beaches and orange sandhills.Fishing, scuba diving and snorkelling are the big thing at Kooljaman. There is a compressor on the property, all fuels are available as is boat charter. The huge tide differences are something to take heed of and divers are warned to do their thing only in incoming tides. Accommodation varying from camping sites to cabins are also available. Things to See and Do Peninsula
North of Broome The Peninsula is home to several Aboriginal communities, so please do not venture onto their property without permission. There are unique opportunities for visitors to stay at certain communities and join fishing or mud crabbing tours. At Beagle Bay you can see the historic Church built in 1918 by Trappist Monks, with superb inlaid pearl shell crafted throughout the interior. Located
on the northern most point of the Peninsula is Cape Leveque with its rugged pindan
cliffs and sparkling tropical waters. Accommodation is available in cabins, beach
shelters or at the camping ground. This is very much a homely, comfortable place
for wilderness lovers, not a glitzy resort. A store and restaurant are also available.
Bookings are essential. The drive from Broome to Cape Leveque is 22O km along
a dirt road - allow 3 - 4 hours. Towing of caravans is not recommended. Willie
